Overview

The RPM circuit breaker is the LMVP vacuum circuit-breaker platform for medium voltage distribution duties. It is available across five current-rating families to suit feeder, incomer, and capacitor switching requirements.

Circuit-breaker and carriage construction

The circuit breaker is mounted on a steel carriage with four flanged wheels for controlled location inside the panel enclosure. A removable handle operates the central screw mechanism used to raise and lower the breaker.

The RPM-series LMVP breaker uses three separate resin housings, each containing an air-insulated vacuum interrupter separated by perspex phase barriers. Primary through-bushings, guide pins, isolating contacts, and a copper earthing contact support accurate location and dependable primary connection.

Current transfer is handled through multi-laminated sliding contacts. Disc springs provide the added contact load in the closed position, and the copper-chrome interrupter contacts help limit contact erosion.

Reyrolle LMT interchangeability

The LMVP vacuum circuit breaker is designed to be interchangeable with the Reyrolle Switchgear LMT oil circuit breaker where the existing installation and project scope allow.

Mechanical endurance testing

The circuit breakers have been type tested to mechanical endurance class M2 under IEC 62271-100.

Safety interlocks

Safety interlocking is aligned to IEC 62271-200 and includes tripping by attempted isolation.

Operational interlocks

  • Prevent moving the circuit breaker into the housing unless it is fully lowered.
  • Prevent raising the breaker unless the secondary circuit plug is correctly inserted and secured.
  • Prevent inserting or removing the secondary plug unless the breaker is fully lowered and the locating bolt is free.
  • Prevent closing the breaker while the manual trip is pushed.
  • Prevent discharging the closing spring while the breaker is closed.
  • Prevent attempted isolation from tripping the circuit breaker in service.
